Google Adwords is a form of paid advertising also known as PPC (Pay Per Click).
This is one way in which Google generates income – it is also a way in which you can propel your business or service towards the top of the search results !
This is how it works.
People search for a product or service using search terms or “keywords”. You can choose to bid on these keywords and pay Google for the service when you get a click through.
The example below shows the results on Google page 1 for a search for “Dublin Bed & Breakfast” – a very competitive industry.
If the words you have bid on match the words that people have searched for your advertisement will appear on the search results page – the location of your add on the page depends on the amount you bid and several other factors. When your add is “clicked on” you pay Google. Having clicked on your add the user is then brought to your website or landing page.
This is a highly targeted method of marketing and can be set up in such a way to reach certain demographics and locations at specific times using sophisticated marketing tools. You can set your budget daily, weekly or monthly and choose to display your Google Adwords listing during the hours of your choosing.
